Fall 2018 Coast
You'll see a total of 8 tracks. One for Friday night, then another to Covelo. From Covelo you'll see 3 choices...a, b, c. Two routes go to Garberville to continue west, and the other, c, heads north to Ruth Lake. I just thought I'd have that as a backup plan. From Garberville you'll see 3 choices, in order of my preference.
Note: I am completely open to alter ideas and be flexible. It's not about the destination, it's the ride and the people. I've built in options just to be flexible. Also, there are many campgrounds on the 101 corridor if we end up running way late. My thought for return was backtracking, though we could run a bit of a loop back to Covelo. You'll see that in basecamp.
Some of us are traveling November 2. I plan to get out of Chico 330-400. First camp on Friday night is Whitlock campground. Just west of Paskenta. it looks pretty sweet. Bring water.

67 miles from Chico.
Saturday morning crew, meet us at camp by 9:00. Head to Covelo for gas. Then we decide on our choice for the two routes I have set. That'll be 3a or 3b.
71 miles from Whitlock to Covelo.
Saturday night I have several options planned. My first choice is Mattole campground on the lost coast.

However, that's a big haul. Knowing our crazy slow pace, we won't make it that far before dark. So, I have a couple of other choices that are closer. One is Wailaki campground. It's about 25 miles west of Garberville, so much more reachable.

My other one is north of that and it's called Tolkan campground. Just wanted to have choices.

3a: Covelo to Pierce. We've done this a couple of times. Fun and pretty. Mix of dirt and roads.
71 miles.
3b: Covelo to Garberville. North out of Covelo and all dirt, so much longer and slower.
161 miles.
4a: Garberville to Mattole beach. it's a big chunk, paved but fun.
120 miles
4b: Wailaki is much closer, as is Tolkan. From Garberville to there:
52 miles.
So, if you look over all of the tracks and do the math, my thought for Saturday, and likely Sunday, is tracks 2, 3a, 4b. That would be a total of 190 ish of mixed dirt and road. If, at any time, we feel like it's too much of a push, we can change the plan and camp anywhere nearby. Campground or not. Be sure that at Covelo you stock up on the essentials so that we have the freedom to camp whereever without another supply stop.
There's short section of 101 we need to do from Piercy to Garberville, so adding that in the day would be about 200 in total. BUT, if we go to the 101 in the redwoods and it was, say 5:00pm, we could just camp at one of the many campgrounds in that area.
