December 2nd, 2017, Fortuna
Because this is a winter ride I was thinking to go coastal. That said, as of now, we only have warm storms coming through and really there isn't much snow up high. Chris and I chatted a bit yesterday and we may join up. They are riding Friday through Sunday it sounds like...or perhaps just through Saturday, and some fellers were joining them for that. I had also planned this coast run, so it could be different than this, but at this point, I believe the following plan would be successful. One way or another there is riding available and to be done! I wanted to do more than a day ride, hence the cabin idea.
This is dirt or street friendly. We, at this point, plan to stay in the cabins at River Walk RV in Fortuna. We could make it super easy for food by walking down to Eel River Brewing and have dinner there. Then, a feller would only really need to worry about snacks and breakfast.
The off road track begins at Orland and goes about the backside of Black Butte Lake and then tracks up toward Paskenta. It then basically parallels the 36 on the south side. We have ridden some of this before but some of it is new. The good news is that there are many bailout options to get up the the 36.
Street only guys could just do the good 'ol fun of the 36 west out of Red Bluff. Just put the Riverwalk RV into your phone and smoke that.
Swen and I had discussed that even if it rains, we still do this trip in vehicles. Life is short and we can just blow off steam and have some laughs. We can discuss this as we get closer. As of now, Fortuna weather is looking 60% rain on that weekend.
Here's the track I built from Orland over. There are a couple of fixits built in because google and basecamp disagree. I emailed the link to you.
