July 11-15

Day 1 to Mad River campground.  Good campground.  Hot riding.

Day 2 up the Mad River road and over the ridge to the 299.  Drone footage.  Great track.  Some gravel, but mostly paved.

Into Willow Creek for gas.  Then up to Hoopa, on a great twisty road, then left and over the ridge to Orick.  Hoopa does have a gas station.  Indian owned. It's now paved.  Last time we rode it it was gravel.  Stock up at the store and then down to Elk Country RV.  Tight camp spots, but worked out fine.  Jason left in the morning.  The rest of us headed north and rode through the redwoods.  Fantastic.  Kurt's battery acted up so we left Klamath and headed to Crescent City to Napa auto.  Skipped a section of track.  Caught our next section north, and it was a great paved country road, then turned to gravel. Pierre headed home.  This was a marbly road.  For many, many miles.  Pretty country though.  Got us down to the Chetco river for camp.  No supply stop.  Ran out of whisky and beer. :(

Great river bath.  Next morning, breakfast in Brookings at the marina.  Good track for the first half...still gravel, but not so much marbles.  Then at the 199 we cut down and caught the next section that should get us to Klamath.  But it went bad.  Really rocky and steep and then gated.  Had to reverse.  Cost us about two hours.  Rig had to head home.  Alan and I and Kurt supplied up at safeway in CC, then headed south.  Ended up back at Elk Country, but this time back by the pond in a much more spacious spot.  Played some poker.  I was exhausted.  Next morning, had an elk herd in camp.  Nice.  Tough ride home.  Lots of contruction on the 36, sadly.  Hot for the last 3 hours or so.  But overall, great July ride.

Night One

Ruth Lake on the 36.  The three USFS campsites are first come and first serve. Whoever goes earlier will find us the sweet spot and communicate back to the group.

From then on, we just ride the track and see where we end up each night.  It's going to be amazing.  Cheers.
